Do you feel able to be part of someone’s life when they are in crisis and offer a calm and caring voice? If your answer is yes, we want to hear from you.
Who are Samaritans?
Samaritans volunteers are ordinary people. We come from all walks of life and all backgrounds and cultures, but we have one thing in common: we are all very good listeners and want to help people going through challenging times in life. Please note that to volunteer with the Samaritans you need to be aged over 18 years.
To ensure that we are able to continue to offer support to those in need we are looking for listening volunteers who can offer 3 to 4 hours each week. You don’t need any formal qualifications, just a natural ability to listen non-judgmentally and offer emotional support.
All volunteers receive special training in listening skills. We are not counsellors because we do not give advice – we just try to understand how a person feels by giving them our total attention and really listening.
We are also looking for support volunteers who play an integral part in keeping North West Samaritans running. Support volunteers help out as Treasurer and Chairman of the committee and with IT, branch administration, publicity and branch housekeeping.
Skills you use in your job, family and day-to-day life could be invaluable resources to us in helping us continuing to deliver and improve our service.
