A number of Hull Samaritans took part in a talk given at Reckitt Benckiser, explaining what we do as Samaritans and how our approach to listening can be an effective tool in the workplace.
Led by Hull Samaritans' training director Dan (pictured standing) and supported by Branch Director Esther, the session was organised by fellow Hull Samaritans volunteers Sam and Maria, outlining what Samaritans do as a charity and also introducing the concept of the Listening Wheel, which is helpful in any workplace.
The feedback given for the one-hour session was really positive, so well done to all those who organised the event.
One attendee noted: “Thank you very much for arranging the active listening training with your Samaritan colleagues – personally I found it very beneficial. I really enjoyed the listening wheel tool, which gave some simple yet effective techniques for becoming a better listener.”
Another added: “I actually learnt a lot about the Samaritans. For example, the fact that the charity are there to listen to those in hard times rather than offering advice.
“I learnt some tips and techniques on how to listen to people and also identified areas I could improve my listening.”
So a better understanding of Samaritans and ideas to become better listeners, all in an hour!
