Herefordshire Samaritans first opened its doors in 1972, and from our current premises in Berrington Street we provide confidential emotional support to anyone who gets in touch when they are experiencing thoughts or feelings of distress or despair.
Thanks to the continued dedication of our committed volunteers, who come from all walks of life and whose ages range from 19 to over 80, we now offer support to those who contact us by phone, e-mail, text or who visit us at the branch or one of our outreach locations. As of September 2016 we are responding to around 2500 contacts every month.
Volunteering in Herefordshire
We hold regular Information Sessions where you can find out more about Samaritans, meet existing volunteers, ask questions and find out if volunteering at Herefordshire Samaritans is right for you.
As well as opportunities for volunteers to talk to people who ask for help or support, we also have openings for people who could help in other ways, perhaps with administration of the branch or to help with Fundraising. To find out more visit our Volunteering Page or fill out our Volunteering Form.
Fundraising in Herefordshire
We are a registered charity with no paid employees; everyone involved is a volunteer. It costs around £165 per day to cover our running costs, all of which must be raised locally either by volunteers or our dedicated Friends group who raise funds on our behalf.
