July is here, and so is the Samarathon! You can run, jog or walk a marathon in your own time and at your own pace to fundraise for Gloucester & District Samaritans

Samarathon

Samarathon starts on the 1st July and runs for the whole of the month. We want to motivate more people to get active to improve their mental wellbeing, and let's face it, a 26.2 mile marathon just isn't for everyone! That’s why Samarathon invites people to take on this marathon challenge at their own pace. And if you can, it is also a way of raising money during the month by walking, running, jogging, cycling 26.2 miles. There's no need to do it in one go - you have the whole month, a mile a day! If you are shielding or aren't able to be physically active, you can think of your own 'Samarathon' that you can do at home, like baking 26 cupcakes or making 26 face masks.

You can participate in Samarathon whilst observing social distancing, as it’s a challenge you can do on your own, with members of your household, or join with friends, family and work mates virtually, supporting each other’s progress wherever you are.

Its free to sign up to Samarathon, and we would be proud to collaborate with anyone wanting to undertake this challenge for Gloucester and District Branch. Like many charities, we face difficulties fundraising over the next few months as we all adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic, but our support to the community remains as vital as ever, so we can be there to help those who need it. We would love to hear from you if you plan on signing up - email: [email protected] to let us know.

Signing up is free at www.samaritans.org/samarathon to take part in the challenge that launches just days before the start of Mental Health Awareness Week. With this year’s theme of ‘kindness’, Samaritans is calling on people to be kind to themselves, to get active and boost their wellbeing, as well as be kind enough to raise valuable funds to ensure Samaritans can deliver a critical service.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, we are temporarily unable to support callers face to face at Gloucester & District branch. Callers can continue to speak to us by phone or email.
