We are delighted that nine more of our volunteers have just completed their training course and become qualified Samaritans
Friends and relatives joined to watch them receive certificates as they concluded their 10 month training programme.
During this time they have each undertaken 42 hours of formal training, at least 35 hours under supervision providing direct support to people needing help and a six month Probationary period.
The training is spread over many months as our volunteers fit their time at Samaritans around jobs, studying and family commitments. They will work at least one shift a week, perhaps very early in the morning or when everyone else has gone to bed, so that we can be there to help people 24 hours a day.

Congratulations to Rebecca, Muntasir, Jack, Greg, Janet, Liz, Grace, Nat and Manjit (who brought her daughter along too)
The training has been challenging at times, but I am now certain that this is what I want to do
Janet, one of our newly qualified volunteers
I have been staggered by the range of problems people need to talk to us about
Greg, also a newly qualified volunteer
The skills I have learned are helping me in my working life as well as at Samaritans
Grace, another one!

And thank you to the Builders Merchants Federation
The ceremony took place at the Builders Merchants Federation Head Office in Coventry who generously allow us to use their premises free of charge for training and meetings
