|About Bristol Branch||Volunteering||Fundraising|
We are always in need of more listening volunteers and are very grateful for all the time and support our volunteers dedicate to the service.
We are a very friendly group comprising all ages and backgrounds. You don’t need qualifications or experience to join us and your background is immaterial, you just have to be 18 or over, a good listener and willing to carry out listening duties in our centre for approximately four hours each week including one night duty (2:00 am to 7:00 am) once every two months. All our volunteers receive free training, on-going support and we also pay volunteers reasonable out of pocket expenses.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please come to an Information Evening. These take place on the first Monday of every month (including Bank Holidays) at 7.15pm in our branch at 37 St Nicholas Street and you will get to meet some of our friendly team.
We also have occasional opportunities for a limited number of support volunteers who help run various administration tasks required by the branch such as organising that all-important rota, maintaining our volunteer database, fundraising and building maintenance. We try our best to match your skills and interests with our need for volunteers.
How to apply
Once you have attended an information evening and have decided you would like to join Bristol Samaritans, you will be asked to fill out an application form (provided at the Information Evening) and will be invited to attend a selection day which are usually held on a Sunday.
During this day we explain in detail what we do, have an informal chat with you and run through simple activities to see if you match our volunteer criteria. Successful applicants will be invited to attend our initial training whilst we carry out Disclosure and Barring Service checks to protect our callers, some of whom may be vulnerable.
From then on, you will be a Samaritans listening volunteer and be part of our Bristol Branch family.
