Could you be a Brent Samaritans volunteer?
Our listening volunteers carry out the very service that Samaritans is all about. They 'listen' through the phone, emails, letters, face-to-face or by text. They provide real help to the many people who contact the Samaritans each year.
We need people to train as listening volunteers and join our branch.
“The skills I've learned as a Samaritans volunteer have helped me more than I ever thought possible.”
The volunteers at Brent are a friendly, dedicated bunch. They come from many walks of life and all age groups. They are ordinary people, just like you, who have been trained in the very best ways to provide non-judgmental emotional support. You can read some of their stories here.
When you join, you can count on all the help you'll need to get the most from your training. But it doesn't stop after that - throughout your time with us, you can rely on full support both from your personal mentor and your colleagues. You're never left on your own to cope with a difficult situation.
You can find out more at one of our regular Information Sessions.
Our next Information session will be held on Saturday November 3rd at 14:00. If you'd like to take part, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, so we can add you to the list.
If you have any questions, you can give us a call on 020 8961 7633
The rewards of volunteering:
- You'll feel the satisfaction of doing something valuable for people in the local community and further afield.
- You'll also be contributing your existing skills, learning new ones and finding others you didn't know you had.
- You'll be part of a team of people that are motivated by the same goals and your fellow volunteers will value you and your contribution.
You must be over 18 to train as a Samaritans volunteer.
Once you have completed your initial training, a Disclosure and Barring Service check is a legal requirement, which must be completed before you can actively support callers.
If you are interested in volunteering with Brent Samaritans, but don't want to become a listener, there may be opportunities in fundraising, publicity and marketing, outreach and centre maintenance.
