Camberley resident retires after 36 years as a volunteer
Mavis Hallett, of The Courtyard, joined Samaritans in Chelmsford in 1985 and served there as branch director. In 2008, she moved to Camberley and transferred to the branch of Bracknell, Wokingham, Ascot & Districts, based in Bracknell. Here she became a greatly valued member of the branch but has decided, on reaching 85, that it is time to retire.
I shall miss it all. In a nutshell, I have taken a lot more out from being a Samaritans’ volunteer than I ever put in. It has been really, really rewarding and worthwhile.
Branch director Barbara Denyer said: “Mavis has been a wonderfully supportive member of the branch, always reliable and punctual and helping in many more ways than the regular weekly shift we all do.”
The local branches based in Bracknell and Farnborough are always pleased to hear from those interested in becoming either support or listening volunteers. Volunteers who can help cover shifts after midnight are especially welcome.
