Bolton Samaritans are always looking for new volunteers to help out on the phones, or support the branch doing admin, fundraising, publicity, IT support or by working in our charity shop. All that we ask is that you're friendly, open-minded and willing to do around 3-4 hours per week. We'll provide any training needed.
Applying to volunteer for us easy, just contact us for more info.
We'd love you to get in touch!
What qualifications are required?
We are looking for volunteers that have any skills that may be useful to the branch; however anyone who would like to support Bolton Samaritans will be given the training needed to fulfil their role.
How do I apply to volunteer with Bolton Samaritans?
If you are interested please contact us, or fill in an online volunteer interest form. We'll then invite you to an informal information session where you can find out more about the branch and the volunteering roles.
There's an application form to fill in and this is followed by a selection evening. Successful Listening Volunteers will be invited to 9 initial training sessions which are roughly 2-3 hours, whilst Support Volunteers will be invited to the first initial training session, followed by further training with a mentor.
Our next information session is on 7th February 2017 at 19.30, sign up here http://bit.ly/2jOurIW
We'd love you to come along and find out more about what we do!
Have you any more information about the roles available?
Bolton Samaritans provide a listening service to those who are struggling or in need. Listening volunteers are always needed and we run two training groups per year to train up anyone interested in becoming a listening volunteer. The training is generally run on one evening per week for 9 weeks and covers everything that you will need to know to become part of the Samaritans. You will then be paired with a mentor to continue your training. You must be over 18 to be a Listening Volunteer (or be 18 before the end of initial training).
Night owls are listening volunteers who prefer to do night shifts, we are always in need of these as the night shifts are vital to the service.
Support volunteers are also an important part of the running of the branch. There are a few different areas within support including admin, fundraising, publicity, IT support and charity shop volunteers.
Support volunteers will need to attend the first session of training only, then continue to work with a mentor for further training.
We currently have the following opportunities:
Admin volunteers to provide office support to ensure the smooth running of our branch. This is a flexible role which would be ideal if you want to expand on admin or IT skills. Training will be given where needed.
We hope to recruit a small team of Fundraisers who will be responsible for raising funds for Bolton Samaritans. If you’ve got experience of fundraising, a creative flair, or just want to get involved then this might be the role for you. In the past we’ve had a few different fundraising events including collections at various venues and sponsored runs etc. If you think you could come up with any new fundraising ideas or help plan or run future events then please contact us.
We need Publicity Volunteers to help our Publicity Officer to promote the services of Bolton Samaritans to the local community. This could involve helping to set up and run publicity events in order to raise awareness for both future potential volunteers and callers, and corresponding with local press, advertisers, and Samaritans design teams to organise advertising opportunities.
Bolton Samaritans requires IT Support Volunteers to assist in the smooth running of branch computer systems and provide IT support for the branch volunteers.
We need volunteers to help out in our charity shop in Breightmet. If you have experience of working in shops, or just want to help out then please get in touch!
