Long-serving Samaritan wins Mayor’s Volunteer of the Year award

Volunteer of the Year 2017 winner, Angey Yallop,
Tuesday 16th May 2017
The outgoing Banbury Mayor, Gordon Ross, presented his Volunteer of the Year award to Angey Yallop, of Banbury and District Samaritans, at the Town Mayor’s Inauguration on 9 May, 2017.

Pat Hotson, who nominated her, said:

“I am so delighted that Angey has been honoured in this way.  Angey’s been a listening volunteer with Banbury and District Samaritans for over thirty years. Hearing loss hasn’t stopped her.  She now specializes in supporting callers using e-mail and SMS.  And she’s always ready to do extra hours and cover for emergencies, despite travelling from Brackley.

With no paid staff, most volunteers take on additional duties, but Angey’s range has been mighty: Chair of Management, Deputy Director, fund-raising, outreach, publicity, mentoring, volunteer care and more.  She’s currently Community Awareness Co-ordinator and Support Volunteers Co-ordinator.

She’s also our link to past volunteers, with regular newsletters and coffee mornings.  And always with a smile!”
