The evening was attended by past and present Samaritans volunteers, local dignitaries including the Mayors of Banbury and Brackley, supporters and donors.
Davina presented her Annual Report celebrating all that had been achieved over the year, thanking everyone who had helped to run and fund the branch over that time.
The audience were treated to a talk from Dr David Thompson who had known Chad Varah, the founder of Samaritans, and provided a fascinating insight into his extraordinary life and work.
Will Adams thanked Davina Birkbeck for all that she had achieved for the branch in her three years as Director. There were also long service awards presented to five volunteers who between them have been listening to callers for an incredible 98 years!
Will spoke of the continuing need for Samaritans and the wide variety of ways in which we reach people in distress. The Banbury and District Branch encompasses a wide area including North Oxfordshire, South Northamptonshire and parts of Warwickshire and in addition to "listening" to callers via the phone, email, text and face to face, the team go out to talk to a variety of clubs and groups as well as schools and colleges.
A big thank you went out to the people of the region who make our work possible in so many ways.
