About The role/person
The Policy Manager is critical to the success of Samaritans’ influencing work. The role provides the expert analysis and lead across our policy priority areas, driving a programme of policy development and engagement across government, Parliament and other key stakeholders to achieve Samaritan’s vision of reducing suicide. With increasing attention on suicide, and a government target of 10% reduction by ‘20/21, it is a fantastic time to be working on the issue.
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Research and Influencing, you will work alongside our Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager and colleagues in Research to ensure Samaritans continues to be the leading voice in suicide prevention. You will lead on the development of policy positions and outputs, providing expertise to the organisation, and representing Samaritans at a variety of external events. You must have an eye for detail, be able to analyse large amounts of information quickly and enjoy working with colleagues from a range of teams.
At Samaritans, our vision is that fewer people die by suicide. We believe it is preventable and that by working together we can give people the support they need before they reach crisis point. We are one of the most trusted charities in the UK and ROI, and we answer a call for help every six seconds. We have around 175 staff and more than 20,000 volunteers based across 201 branches giving emotional support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We don’t just hear you, we listen.
Our Central Office is located in a converted mill in Ewell, Surrey which is just over 30-minutes by train from Waterloo and 15 minutes from Wimbledon. As an employer we offer a good range of benefits, including 25 days’ holiday, free parking, Health Cash Plan, Pension and interest-free season ticket loans.
