Working with People Who Self-harm
Overview
Self Harm is an
increasingly widespread activity which raises anxiety for those who
are coming into contact with it. This course will dispel some of
the common misunderstandings about self harm and provide those
attending with the skills and confidence to respond.
This course has been designed for:
- Anyone coming into contact with people who self harm
- Those who wish to improve their skills and confidence when
actively listening to emotionally powerful situations.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Recognise what self harm is.
- Understand some of the reasons why people self harm and the
difference between self harm and a suicide attempt.
- Listen for feelings as well as meaning
- Gain new information through effective questioning
techniques
- Use support to minimise stress
