The membership of the Friends group is made up of both listening and non-listening volunteers; this enables those who cannot, for whatever reason, be listeners to be involved in the organization and know that they are contributing to the emotional health of the community.

Anyone who is interested in supporting the Friends can obtain more information from the Branch on 01827 709637, or email us.

Even though our branch is staffed entirely by volunteers, we still need money for phone bills, rent and so on. Fundraising is done by The Friends of The Samaritans, and you don't have to be a 'listening' volunteer to help. Pease e-mail for more details. Corporate donations are always welcome too.

To get everyone fully prepared for a role as a Samaritans volunteer, there’s a series of about 9 preparation sessions to learn about active listening, all held in our branch over weekends or evenings. You’ll take part in skills practice exercises and group discussions with a group of people who will also act as informal back-up for you when you become a volunteer. The hours of shifts do vary quite a lot from branch to branch. But typically, once you are trained you will be asked to do a shift of 3 to 4 hours a week.

E-mail us at Tamworth Samaritans to volunteer online or call +44 (0)8705 62 72 82 from the UK or Ireland.
