Ireland 24:7 Events
Samaritans branches throughout Ireland hosted fundraising garden
parties and summer events in July 2008. Funds raised go to
continue and improve Samaritans 24-hour helpline services
throughout Ireland.

Ireland Sinead Noonan, at Fitzwilliam Square Park Dublin with Amaya
O’ Cochlain (8) Lena O’Cochlain and Tara Rose Kennedy (4) at the
launch of Samaritans first summer national fundraiser.

Athlone
Athlone and Midland Samaritans promoted 24/7
in the shopping centres in Athlone.
Belfast
Garden Party hosted at the Branch Director's
home for volunteers, friends and family on Friday 25 July.
Cork
Bands on Patrick Street
On Thursday 24th of July from 11 am till 6pm, local
bands perform on Patrick Street outside Brown Thomas department
store with a meet and greet of samaritan volunteers.
Samaritans Youth Awareness Gig
From 6pm to 9pm on Thursday 24th, there was a Youth Awareness
Gig in the Pavilion, Careys Lane, featuring The Avalanche Effect,
Pushplay (finalist in the Munster Coca-Cola Blast), and Suede
Halo.
Derry
BBQ at St Columb's Park, Derry, with Nashville singer Justin
Black
There were also collections at Foyleside, Richmond,
Lisnagelvin Shopping Centres and Letterkenny Shopping Centre and
Dunnes Stores, Letterkenny.
Drogheda
The Samaritans of Drogheda had a family fun
day on the 20th July 3pm-5pm in St. Peter's Church of Ireland. DJ,
face painting, magican, sports races, book stall and refreshments
served.
Also on 24th July Samaritans had an all day street collection and
the centre was open for anybody to come and have a chat and
tea/ coffee and biscuits.
Dublin
Samaritans of Dublin were in the following shopping centres on
the following dates and will be giving out Samaritans literature
and information.

Samaritans Ennis and Clare Morris
Minor Trip
Volunteers at Ennis and Clare branch drove a Morris Minor the
full length of Ireland and Britain.

Galway
To mark 24:7, Galway Samaritans created an artistic piece to
coincide with the Galway Arts Festival. With the support of Boots
in Shop Street, (using their shop window), over the course of
Thursday 24th July, a number of actors silently portrayed the
affects of depression and suicidal thought, and how any one of us
can find ourselves needing help in our lives.
Kilkenny
Guess the number of balloons in the Vintage Car!
For 24:7 the Samaritans Kilkenny and Carlow
had a Balloon Day in Market Cross. It was a three day event
24th, 25th and 26th July.
We also had a Gala event in the
Watergate.

Limerick
Samaritans Limerick and Tipperary held a
coffee morning in the centre at 20 Barrinton Stree, Limerick.
Branch volunteers ask edfriends and some
businesses to provide cakes etc and will cater for visitors to the
centre. Other volunteers handed out invitations for people to come
visit the centre for tea/coffee at various points around the
city.
Newbridge
Newbridge & Kildare Branch hosted an outside Broadcast with
Radio Station KFM and were situated at Whitewater Shopping
Centre from 12 noon to 3p.m. Thursday 24th
July.

Newry
Newry Samaritans staged a Garden Party at St Colmans Park, Newry
on Saturday 26th July from 2pm until 5pm. The aim of
this event was to promote and raise awareness of their vital
services they provide to the community. Activities included live
music, face painting, quiz, refreshments, fancy dress etc. Local
dignitaries were also present.
Waterford
Samaritans Waterford held a garden party in their newly
refurbished garden and premises at 16 Beau Street, Waterford, which
was opened by the mayor of Waterford, Councillor Jack Walsh.
