Halloween Fun

All over the TMG offices, people took advantage of Halloween to raise some money for Samaritans. People wore costumes, sold Halloween themed treats, had raffles, and even went dunking for apples! A good time was had by everyone involved while bringing in more funds for our charity of the year.

Payroll Giving

The easiest and mist tax efficient way to support Samaritans is to set up a monthly donation through your payroll.

Trader Media Group - Bronze Award 2007 for Payroll GivingTrader Media Group participates in ‘Give As You Earn’ (GAYE). This scheme allows employees to donate a part of their salary to Samaritans or any charity of their choosing.

It costs Samaritans £2.29 every time a volunteer responds to each of the 5million contacts that they receive annually.  So if you donate £5 a month to Samaritans through your payroll you are helping them to answer 2 calls for help.  Also, because of the tax that is reclaimed through payroll giving, donating £5 to Samaritans will cost you just £3.80.

As an employee, the amount you donate is entirely up to you, and since it is taken out of your pay before tax, it costs you less.

For example:

Cost to the employee What charity actually receives (22% taxpayer) What charity actually receives (40% taxpayer)
£5 £6.41 £8.33
£10 £12.82 £16.67

In June 2007, The Charity Aid Foundation awarded Trader Media Group the Bronze Award for our success in the Give As You Earn scheme established to allow Trader Media Group employees to donate money from their pre-tax pay.

By giving a monthly gift through your payroll we’re able to expand our work secure in the knowledge that we have your ongoing support – support that we can rely on.  Monthly donations help to keep our administration costs to a minimum, allowing us to make the best use of your donation.
It’s simple to donate through Payroll Giving:

Donate!

Samaritans needs over £10million each year to provide a 24 hour emotional support service to our callers.  Only 3% of this comes from statutory sources, we rely on public donations for 97% of our funding.

Straight donations enable the organisation to keep going.  Whilst contributions to projects enable us to manage the quality, efficiency and innovation of our service, unrestricted donations are what keep our lines open, our computers on and our doors open.  On first appearance it may not seem as glamorous as funding a project, but it is certainly no less important.

If you’d like to make a donation to Samaritans , please visit their website at www.samaritans.org, or phone +44 (0) 8709 00 00 32. Or you can mail a donation to: Samaritans General Office, The Upper Mill, Kingston Road, Ewell, KT17 2AF.
