About Samaritans

Samaritans are open 24 hours a day and answer around 5 million calls for help each year by phone, email, text, in person and by letter.

Samaritans volunteerCommon reasons to call Samaritans are:

  • Relationship and family problems
  • Loss, including loss of a job, a friend or a family member through bereavement
  • Financial worries
  • Job-related stress or overwork
  • College or study related stress
  • Body image issues

We also help people through their hard times, including when they are feeling suicidal.

We believe that by giving people a space to talk, knowing that we won’t judge them or tell anyone else what they tell us, we can help them find a way through their troubles.

Songs to Save a Life is an album that can help Samaritans help others.

Emotional pain does not discriminate and there are no age boundaries. Samaritans has exactly the same philosophy. Whatever the age, whatever the problem – if you feel it’ll help you in the slightest way, do get in touch. You may be surprised by the outcome.

I want to thank all of you at Samaritans. Because of you I chose a different path for myself. I thank you every day for giving me hope.”
