24 7
24:7 was
chosen to be the focus of our summer fundraising, and the perfect
day to tell the world that Samaritans are there to answer calls 24
hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. We are the only
service which is always there for people who need emotional
support, whether by telephone, email, letter or face to face.
In 2006, there were over 200 events across the
UK and Ireland to mark the 24th July. These included:
- A sponsored walk/cycle/run to link up all the
branches in Scotland
- Caithness branch projected a series of 24/7
based Samaritan Messages on the famous Dounreay Sphere
- Rotheram branch had a Street collection and
Fancy Dress Pub Crawl
- Hull branch had 7 volunteers hold a 24 hour
sleepover in the local shopping centre
- Northallerton branch created a Limited
Edition Beer called Never 2 L8
Preston branch flew their 20ft Blimp
over the City Centre
- The Lord Mayor of Dublin saw off a 24:7
round-Ireland tour from Dublin branch around all 20 branches on the
island of Ireland
- Southampton branch had a Pro Am Golf
Competition at Stoneham
- Taunton branch had a Bag Pack at Sainsbury's
with local MP helping
