Initial training . . .
. . . our experienced training team will make sure that you are fully prepared for your role as a Samaritans volunteer.
Training takes place over a period of a few months with several evening and weekend sessions. You will work within a group, and learn about active listening and different types of calls by taking part in skills practice exercises and group discussion.
The training programme requires your full commitment but is excellent preparation for becoming a volunteer. You will then continue to train, learn and work within a group of people who will fully support you through the next stage of your training. When you are ready to answer the phones, there will always be an experienced volunteer on hand to support you.
"My initial training was thought provoking and insightful. It made me realise how I automatically made assumptions of people and situations without realising it. After undergoing Samaritan training I am now able to take a step back, actively listen to people and actually hear what they say. The training has not only been extremely beneficial to becoming a Samaritan but has carried through to other areas of my life and has changed how I interact with people in general"
