Other fundraising . . .
. . . as an independent charity, Stockport Samaritans needs to raise its own funds.
Collections
We would like to thank Tesco (Portwood Stockport), Sainsbury (Cheadle) and Stockport Council for allowing us to collect at their stores and over Christmas in the centre of the town - we managed to raise £2100.00. We are arranging another programme for 2008 whereby we hope to collect at a few supermarkets throughout the Stockport area and again at Christmas in the centre of Stockport. We also get lots of interest from prospective volunteers on these occasions - if you see us at these collections, please do not hesitate to ask for information about volunteering.
Three Peaks Challenge
On 2 June 2007, Ben 54 completed the Three Peaks
Challenge for the Stockport Samaritans and raised £2337. The weather just about held for him and he was joined by his Dad for Snowdon,
the final peak, and it was completed in his trusty VW Campervan.
Ben does his last shift at the end of July for Stockport, then is hoping to transfer to Halifax Branch, so he is calling it his leaving present to us!!
Charity Bike Ride
Stockport Samaritans received a wonderful donation of £4125 this year from Peter H. who raised the money for us in memory of his brother David. Peter raised the money by taking part in a weekend sponsored cycle ride of the pathways of the Greater Manchester Ship Canal – in excess of 100 miles. David was a dedicated volunteer at Stockport Samaritans and an active member of our fundraising team and believed very strongly in the work done by Samaritans and is sadly missed.
