Outreach
Outreach has several aims – to provide the Samaritan service out in the community, to increase awareness of the service we offer to those in need of emotional support and hopefully, to aid recruitment. We have several current outreach initiatives:
Local Hospitals
We have liaised with both Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals to have Samaritans awareness material displayed in key areas at each hospital. Ormskirk Hospital Radio has agreed to play Samaritans jingles daily on the hospital radio station. The same jingles are also broadcast on Southport’s local radio station, Dune FM.
Doctors Surgeries
With the help of local Primary Care Trusts we have distributed awareness material to 73 surgeries in North Sefton and 43 in West Lancashire.
Schools, Colleges and University
We work with local schools and colleges and Edge Hill University to raise awareness of Samaritans amongst a particularly vulnerable age group open to many of society’s pressures at a difficult time in their lives. Freshers Events are one way of introducing ourselves to students.
Prison Outreach Team
We support Samaritan Listener Schemes in two of our local prisons - click here for more information.
Speakers
We have a small team of speakers who are always willing to carry out speaking engagements at church groups, schools, societies, business clubs and many other organisations. If you would like us to give a talk, please see the Contact Us Page.
