Samaritans in the local community

Prisons

Bronzefield PrisonPrisoners are seven times more likely to take their lives than an average person in the UK. The first 48 hours spent inside a prison are when people are the most vulnerable, for many reasons.

The Listener Scheme is a peer support scheme whereby selected prisoners are trained and supported by Samaritans, using their same guidelines, to listen in complete confidence to their fellow prisoners who may be experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.

Samaritans select, train and support listeners in Bronzefield Prison, in nearby Ashford.

Speakers

We give talks to a wide range of organisations, tailoring the talk to the intended audience, including an opportunity for group discussion.

Would you like a Samaritan to speak to your school, club or other organisation about our work? Please contact us at: slough@samaritans.org or call us on 01753 531011 and leave a message for our outreach director to contact you to arrange a date and time.
