Branch Statistics

Here are a few selected statistics to give an indication of what we get up to. In the 2009 calendar year, Reading Samaritans volunteers answered:

• 35,934 phone calls.
• 3,942 emails (more than any other Samaritans branch)
• 11,039 SMS (text) messages
• 196 face-to-face calls.

The number of active listening volunteers varied between 90 and 100: in addition, there are always some volunteers taking a break, and also around 15 Support Volunteers performing a wide range of other supporting functions.

Financially, Reading Samaritans are wholly dependent on donations. For our financial year ending 31 August 2009, our total expenditure was £50,485. Financial supporters in this period included Reading and Wokingham Borough Councils, HM Prison Service Reading, and many other organisations and individuals.
