The Portsmouth and East Hampshire Branch of Samaritans is a registered charity, and is entirely reliant on raising its own funds to operate.  Although we are affiliated to Samaritans nationally, we receive no financial support from the central organisation, or from central Government.  However, we openly acknowledge that the general public is very generous towards us and continues to donate money, and we are most grateful that people recognise the vital need for Samaritans to continue to exist and be available to the community.

The Portsmouth and East Hampshire Branch is managed and staffed entirely by volunteers who receive no pay or salary.  They work solely on a sense of commitment, and a belief in the benefits of a listening service.  To be able to run premises 24 hours a day, and to pay all the annual costs of phone bills, property upkeep, advertising our service, and recruitment and training etc. does, of course, cost money.

If you read this and would like to support us there are several ways in which you can do this.  Personal donations can be SENT directly to us, and some people set up monthly or quarterly standing orders.  If you GIFT AID your donation it is worth more to us without any extra expense to yourself.  You may even consider leaving us a legacy in your Will.
