Step by Step Resources

Our Step by Step resources

Whether you’re a young person, a parent, a teacher or another professional, you can find resources here to inform you about self-harm and suicide.

These include help and support for anyone concerned about self-harm or suicide in the school community.

These resources have been developed by a range of organisations with expertise on self-harm, suicide and working with young people, their families and schools. We asked volunteers, young people and education professionals to evaluate a wide range of materials and they told us that the ones below were the most useful.

  1. Resources on self-harm:
These resources are designed to help people who self-harm. They include information about why people self-harm, and sources of support and guidance. They have been written by the Mental Health Foundation, Royal College of Psychiatrists, Young Minds and Samaritans.

  2. Resources on suicide:
These resources are designed to help school communities affected by suicide. They advise on appropriate responses to suicide which support others and reduce the risk of further suicides. They can also help schools to prepare critical incident plans relating to suicide. They have been written by NEPS, Papyrus, Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide, Winston’s Wish and Young Minds.
