Volunteer

Are you interested in becoming a Samaritan volunteer at Northampton?

We are a friendly group of all ages and backgrounds. You don't need qualifications or experience and your background is immaterial. You must be 18 or over, a good listener and willing to commit to a 3 hour shift each week with an overnight shift every 4 or 5 weeks. We have facilities for volunteers with disabilities.

We also have opportunities for those who can offer skills other than listening, such as fund-raising, administration, helping in the shop or becoming a Friend of Northampton Samaritans.

Northampton like all other branches runs its own preparation classes. Listening volunteers will attend about 7 training sessions within a group, with role plays and group discussions.

After initial preparation will be able to observe other volunteers at work before taking your first call. For the first six months you will be assigned to a mentor and have the support from other trained volunteers. At the end of this period you will get further training. Non-listening volunteer are expected to attend the first module of this training.

Why not get in touch with us to find out more, with no obligation. We often find the best volunteers are those who have doubts about their own ability to help us.

If you are interested please ring 01604 637637, email or write to Applications Secretary, Samaritans, 2 St Michaels Avenue Northampton NN1 4JQ

Our next Training Course starts in the new year, but applications are invited now.

Becoming a Samaritan volunteer could change someone’s life and YOUR OWN
