Anticipated winners
Dappy and Fazer of
N-Dubz were knocked out in the men’s semi-finals
of Samaritans’ Soccer Six football match today at Charlton Athletic
FC, much to the disappointment of crowds of fans. However,
N-Dubz’s Tulisa more than made up for it in the
girls tournament by leading her team to victory in a nail-biting
penalty shoot-out.

Also hotly tipped for the
men’s title were The Infidels team, headed up by comedians
Omid Djalili and David Baddiel as
well T4’s Rick Edwards. Instead, it was the
X-factor team captained by Jeff Brazier with
X-factor finalists Danyl Johnson and Jamie
Archer, who were crowned champions after a 2-1 win against
The Sun team.
Samaritans is Soccer Six’s charity of the year
for the sixth year running and proceeds from ticket sales and
celebrity donations will be given to the emotional support charity
to ensure that Samaritans’ service remains available 24 hours a day
to support anyone in emotional distress.
X-Factor finalist Jamie Archer showed his
support for Samaritans and creating awareness of the benefits of
talking especially for men: “Us guys tend to bottle things
up. We live in a culture where you’re told to get on with it
and man up. What actually happens is you keep it inside and it
makes things worse and worse until your problems snowball. I talk
to my friends and family about my worries; I have watched friends
who never talked and have broken down and I don’t want to be in
that position. If you keep talking it stops things from getting on
top of you”.
Celebrities who participated
in the charity event today included the cast of top-rated TV shows
Skins, Shameless andWaterloo
Road. Bands The Hoosiers, The
Wanted, McFly and up and coming girl
group Phacebook who supported JLS
on their UK area tour this year were also competing for
victory. Other celebrities who took time-out
from their busy schedules to support Samaritans were stars of
EastEnders’ Sam Attwater and Devon Anderson,
Hollyoak’s Nathalie Emmanuel and
X-factor girls Stacey Solomon and Miss
Frank.
Samaritans’ Claire Duncan
said: “Today’s Soccer Six has been a great day for everyone. Over
150 celebrities and thousands of fans were out in force to support
their favorite stars and the charity at Charlton Athletic FC. The
event allowed us to raise awareness of the 24:7 emotional support
service we offer.”

Notes to editors
Samaritans' vision is for a society where
fewer people die by suicide because people are able to share
feelings of emotional distress openly without fear of being
judged. Samaritans believes that offering people the
opportunity to be listened to in confidence, and accepted without
prejudice, can alleviate despair and suicidal feelings.
Samaritans is a registered charity, founded in
1953, which offers 24-hour confidential emotional support to anyone
in emotional distress. The service is offered by 16,534
