Samaritans provides confidential non-judgemental emotional support to people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those that may lead to suicide, on the phone, face to face, by email and by letter, 24 hours a day, everyday of the year.

We are not a religious or a political organisation. We don't make judgments and we don't offer advice. Instead, we believe in the value of having time and space to explore difficult feelings.  We also believe that being listened to in confidence, and accepted without prejudice, can alleviate despair and suicidal feelings.

Whatever you are going through, whether it's big or small, don't bottle it up. If you find yourself feeling upset, troubled, confused, worried or just want to talk to someone.
Samaritans is here to help you.

New volunteers are always welcome at Luton, South Beds & Harpenden Samaritans. We need ‘Listening Volunteers’ to support our callers by phone, email, and face to face, and we also always need ‘non-listening volunteers’ to support our fundraising efforts.LFC

Listening volunteers receive excellent training to enable them to fully develop their existing skills as well as learn some useful new ones. All volunteers undergo ongoing training every year, so that we remain at the forefront of modern thinking and best practice. Many volunteers also undertake essential administration duties in the Branch.

Non-listening volunteers are also essential to our service because we are always fundraising, and trying to come up with new ideas for fundraising events. All skills are welcome and the amount of time that you donate is entirely up to you.

To find out more about being a Samaritan volunteer why not come along to one of our information days.
These events give you a chance to find out what being a volunteer entails.
They are a great opportunity to meet existing volunteers, find out why they do it and what they get out of being a volunteer. It is a chance to ask questions and just as important, find out what’s in it for you.
Then you can decide if it is for you, and what type of volunteer you would like to become.

If you decide you would like to become a ‘listening volunteer’ you can take away an application form and for those who would like to support our fundraising team – just leave your contact details with us.

If you would like an invitation to one of our information days, please call our recruitment hotline number 07807 892681
