"Suicide in Southwark - A Strategy for Prevention"

Suicide is a problem in Southwark, with rates consistently higher than those in London and in England. The risk factors are many and varied - such as mental ill-health, a family history of suicide, socio-economic disadvantage, substance misuse, conflict with the law, recent losses, and access to means of suicide. A wide range of organisations and individuals will need to work together to address these issues to prevent suicide across the borough. Many of these organisations and individuals have contributed to this report. It describes the patterns and trends in suicide across Southwark over an eight year period, examines what works in suicide prevention, and together with these stakeholders, proposes a prevention programme and action plan that could reduce the incidence of suicide over the coming years.
