Here at the Havering branch we are a friendly, welcoming team: a mixed group with different backgrounds, coming from all walks of life and ranging from 18 years old to ages we’d rather not admit to! We are always in need of new volunteers.
Our Listening Volunteers are ordinary, everyday people, who are good at listening, who do not make judgements about our callers or try to tell them what to do, and who want to provide emotional support to those callers.
We hold regular Information Sessions at the branch for potential new volunteers, and we hold these in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. If you can spare some time on a regular basis and would like to find out more why not come along and see what it is all about? The Information Session lasts just under two hours and will give you a good understanding of what being a Samaritans volunteer involves.
You will be shown a DVD that gives some background to the work of Samaritans and what we do. We will talk to you about the commitment required from a Volunteer and the various ways it can be met and you will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions both in a group discussion and on a one-to-one basis. We also explain further the process of becoming a Samaritan.
You can contact Samaritans about becoming a volunteer in the following ways:
We will then contact you to let you know the next available information session date.
