Enfield, Haringey and Barnet Samaritans
Volunteers* needed now!
Full Training Given
Information Days Dates Below |
Enfield, Haringey and Barnet Samaritans rely entirely on unpaid volunteers to carry out its role. Currently there are 70 Listening Volunteers who give their time on a regular, weekly basis. The Samaritans Centre is staffed by these volunteers, whose primary aim is to offer emotional support to those experiencing feelings of despair and distress, including those that might lead to self-harm or suicide.
These same volunteers often undertake many other roles within the Branch. These include outreach activities in schools and prisons; marketing and fundraising activities and several kinds of administrative roles that help the branch run smoothly.
Listening Volunteers are always trained to high standards. Before becoming a Samaritan volunteer a trainee will join an initial training course spanning 5 weeks and then work under the supervision of a mentor with additional training workshops at intervals. In terms of support, volunteers are never left to cope with a difficult call on their own. When they are on the phones and afterwards too, there will always be an experienced volunteer on hand to offer support.
With increasing numbers of contacts being made with Samaritans, we always need to recruit new volunteers. If you are thinking about the possibility of becoming a trained Samaritans volunteer, you are aged 18 or over and you would like to attend an Information Day or would simply like to know more, then please email ehb@samaritans.org we look forward to hearing from you.
