Volunteering We are currently looking for new volunteers, both to support our callers and to help us run the Branch. Listening volunteers We are getting more calls than ever, therefore, we are looking to find suitable new listening volunteers to help us continue the work that we've been doing for the last 50 years. For a better understanding of what being a listening volunteer is all about, visit our Being A Listening Volunteer page. Non-listening volunteers Running a Samaritans Branch requires a lot more than just ensuring we have enough volunteers to support our callers. There is, for instance, the small matter of raising money to fund our work. Also providing a professional service to our callers requires a significant amount of administration to make everything happen. And then there is making sure that the people of Derby, Burton, Ashbourne and surrounding areas are aware of how we can help them. All of which means we have just as much of a need for non-listening volunteers as listening ones. In particular we are looking for volunteers to help us with: To find out more about volunteering with Samaritans Whether your interest is in becoming a listening or non-listening volunteer come along to one of our Information Evenings, which we hold about once a month. This is an opportunity for you to find out more about Samaritans, to ask questions and to talk to current volunteers about their experience. And there might just be a cup of tea and a biscuit on offer... All the sessions start at 7.30pm, are held at our branch on Burton Road, and will last about one and a half hours. Following your application, you will be invited to a selection day. This is an opportunity for you to find out more about being a volunteer with Samaritans, and for us to see if you would be suitable. Selection is always a two-way process, there are some people who decide that being Samaritans is not for them while there are others who we decide are not suited to volunteering with us.
