Outreach Programmes

What are Outreach Programmes?

Outreach Programmes are those activities that we conduct outside the branch to provide support for the public, as well as to promote the work and vision of the organisation.

In addition to offering emotional support, Samaritans of Derby also work on a range of ongoing outreach programmes in the local area.  These projects are aimed at making emotional health a mainstream issue for everyone, everywhere, including:

  • Training 'Listeners' to carry out Samaritans duties within prisons, see Our Work in Prisons for more information.
  • Carrying out regular talks in schools, colleges, universities and youth organisations to raise awareness of the issues around suicide and self harm amongst young people.
  • Working with local service providers to develop a full range of services accessible to people in emotional distress.
  • Giving talks to other voluntary groups, WI, companies and employers, for example on coping with bereavement.

For any further information, or if you would like to arrange a talk or Outreach programme, give the branch a call.
