Volunteers

So who are the Samaritan volunteers?

You may already have met a Samaritan without even realising it.

  • the man on the train
  • the woman at the office
  • the friend from college
  • the person in the queue at the takeaway

We, like the majority of our callers, are just ordinary, everyday people.

So what make us special?

Nothing makes us special, other than our willingness to give some of our free time to support those who are suicidal or passing through a crisis.

You don't need qualifications or experience, and your age and background are immaterial, however, you must be:

  • a good listener
  • open-minded
  • over 17
  • willing to commit to a 3-4 hour shift per week, including some overnights

Coventry, like all other Branches, runs its own preparation classes for potential Volunteers which will include role-plays (volunteer and caller), and plenty of time for discussion. You are never alone in the Branch but become part of a strong team providing essential support for each other, as well as for those facing a crisis

Do you think you qualify? Want to know more? Please go to the events page and find out when our next information session is planned.
