Samaritans Time

Ah, the age-old dilemma that has plagued mankind since the dawn of civilisation - what to buy for that special someone who has everything? You could scour the earth for rare and ridiculous material objects, or you could buy them some time. Better still, you could buy them some Samaritans Time.

In some ways, buying time is like giving us a donation, except here there's some tangible result. You can see what your money is actually being used for. Plus, once you've completed the checkout, you get to print out a nice certificate to remind yourself of what a kind person you are, and how grateful we are to have your support.

Samaritans Time is a perfect thing to buy for someone else. Simply present the certificate to them, and you'll both have the warm glow that comes from knowing you're doing good things. It's more useful than a pair of novelty pants, and there's no silly packaging to dispose of.

Every year we receive over 37,000 calls to our branch from people experiencing feelings of distress or despair. Each call costs us, on average, £2.50. This gift covers the cost of one of those calls.

1 Hour

97% of the running costs of our branch come from public donations. This has to cover telephone lines, electricity, printing, insurance etc. This gift covers the cost of running the entire branch for 1 hour.

1 4-Hour Shift

4 hour shift

Our volunteers are available to take calls 24 hours a day. They perform one 4-hour shift every week, in addition to one overnight shift every six weeks. This gift covers the cost of running the entire branch for one 4-hour shift.

24 Hours

Cardiff & District Samaritans is the only 24 hour emotional support line in Wales. We are available at any time of day to take calls from anyone. This gift covers the running costs of the whole branch for 24 hours.

Training For 1 Volunteer

Our volunteers offer confidential, nonjudgmental emotional support to anyone, anywhere, but in order to do so they must undergo around 6 weeks of training. This gift covers the full cost of training 1 volunteer for 6 weeks.
