News and Events 2006, November 26Success for Bridgend Samaritans Football Tournament
In a recent fundraising event Bridgend Samaritans have raised over £2,250, 10% of the annual amount needed to sustain the service provided by this local branch. The event was held on Sunday 26th of November at Gol Astroturf in Cardiff, with teams coming from all over South Wales. The day started with the 5-a-side group stages, with the top teams going through to the quarter finals. A break was held for the auction, with prizes being donated by The Vale, Southerndown and Cottrell Park Golf Clubs, Esporta, Beauty Spot, Mamma Mia, the Mughal Emperor and The Automatic provided signed merchandise. With the help of auctioneers,’ Hannah Emerson-Thomas (ITV Wales) and David Little (Barclays Spaces for Sports representative) the auction raised a total of £426.00. Cardiff’s Price Waterhouse Coopers came out victorious, with a team from Llanedeyrn following closely behind in second place (4-2). Cardiff’s Barclays and Barry’s HKC Estates battled it out for third place with Barclays scraping the win.
The day ended in the bar with the final activity of the day, the raffle. Events organiser Adrienne Little says, “The response from shops in Cowbridge and McArther Glen was fantastic, we have enough donations to hold two raffles.” The second raffle is to be drawn some time before the New Year, with the donations to be added to the current total. Bridgend Samaritans would also like to give a big thank-you to Barclays Spaces for Sports for working in conjunction with the event. Barclays provided the trophies, medals and implemented their pound for pound scheme to half the total. Thanks to all the players, everyone that gave donations and prizes and those that showed their support on the day. Hope you enjoyed yourselves!
