Training
Volunteering page | Fundraising page

All Samaritan "listening" volunteers undergo Initial Training which will last for between 5-8 weeks and may be undertaken during evenings or a mix of evenings and days (Sat or Sun).

Initial Training is comprised of group exercises, group discussions, demonstration role plays and skills practice, which offer the New Samaritan an insight into how it feels to take calls

After completion of Initial Training, each New Samaritan is assigned a mentor - an experienced volunteer who will guide them through their first duties, and support them during a 6 month probationary period.

Following on from this is Part 2 Training, when New Samaritans can share with the training team their experiences so far, and discuss any queries which may have arisen.

Additionally, all Samaritans make a commitment to attend at least 5 hours Ongoing Training per year. These sessions are run throughout the year and allow all volunteers to:

  • keep up to date with current best practice
  • explore new ideas
  • have the opportunity to refresh the basics.

Anyone interested in becoming a listening or support volunteer is very welcome to attend one of our Information Evenings at 7.30pm at the branch.
Please ring us on 01243 826333 for more information:
