Ashford and Tenterden Branch Donate to the Samaritans It costs approximately £9,000 a year to run our centre in Ashford, £6,000 of this is our phone bill. Of course if volunteers were paid for the time they give each year to listen to distressed callers, the figure would be much higher. The money is needed to keep our lines open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. All our running costs are derived from voluntary donations from individuals, local companies, churches, and other bodies. We receive no regular income from government or other official sources.
